Known as the Garden of Wales, this sparsely populated area between the Brecon Beacons and Pembrokeshire comprises beautiful fields, a long coastline, and mountainous areas that are full of history dating back to the Romans. From Roman gold mines and castles to antique shops and Dylan Thomas’s favourite place for a drink, Carmarthenshire has numerous attractions. The area is easy to access by road, and local buses connect the smaller villages, although rail access is somewhat limited. Two of the area’s towns have made the Sunday Times’ list of the top 101 places to live in the UK, as well as the top 11 towns in Wales.
